FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

WARNING: All of these laws can change frequently. There are bills in the legislature changing DWI law every single year. These answers to common questions are not legal advice in any case. Consult an attorney before making decisions and to learn what may have changed, and what applies in your case.

License Plates

Q: Do I lose my plates?

A: You do if you are at least a second-time offender within ten years, or a first timer with a .20 test result or higher, or a child under 16 was in the vehicle, or you refused to take the test.

Q: Which plates do I lose?

A: All plates on all vehicles where you are one of the registered owners on the title, even if you use them for your business! Failure to turn them in on time is another crime!

Q: Can my household members drive the vehicles?

A: If you get special DWI plates, yes. But, those special plates alert the police and others like a "Scarlet Letter". Let's try to win the plate issue, for your sake, and for your family's sake.
